Youth Tour

What is Youth Tour?

The Youth Tour (YT) isn’t just a trip—it’s a launchpad for leadership. Sponsored by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA), the Florida Electric Cooperative Association (FECA), and West Florida Electric Cooperative (WFEC), this program gives high school juniors a chance to grow as leaders while exploring state and national government.

Each year, nearly 2,000 students from across the country take part in this unique experience. Participants spend two days in Tallahassee learning about Florida’s legislative process, then top competitors earn an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C. There, they connect with peers from across the nation, meet their congressional leaders, and build the skills and confidence needed to step into future leadership roles.

Youth Tour is more than a visit to the Capitol—it’s a chance to strengthen your voice, expand your vision, and discover your potential as a leader and citizen.

How Can I Be a Part of It?

You must be a high school junior and your parents or guardians must be members of West Florida Electric. If you’re interested, contact your school’s guidance counselor for more information. Home-schooled or private schooled students are also eligible to participate. Please contact Candace Croft at ccroft@westflorida.coop for more information.

Each high school in WFEC"s service area selects one student representative. All students chosen are required to participate in the two-day trip to Tallahassee. Failure to attend the Tallahassee trip will automatically disqualify students from competing for the trip to Washington, D.C. (unless prior approval to miss the trip is received from WFEC).

*There is a limit of one participant per high school, so make sure you talk with your counselor.*
